DTM Musician Questionnaire: The Bloggers

The blogosphere weighs in---

We have already linked to Terry Teachout, who reminds us of The Equalizer. We'd love to see that show again!

Pat Donaher and David Ryshpan both mention Joey Baron as a favorite drummer, which is rad.

Kill Ugly Radio earns points by saying that every Grant Green album is a good jazz record, which is probably true.

Black Torrent keeps it real: "I don't think I have a sound yet, but my youthful study of all of Brian May's work (especially "News of the World" and "Queen II") probably counts." Black Torrent is Andy Hanson-Dvoracek, who also writes: "I actually got a chance to talk to you (Ethan) very briefly once, after your panel at the 2005 CMJ Music Marathon. I bothered you about whose idea it was to go major at the end of "Iron Man," which I still think is one of the best single instants in music. Unless I wasn't understanding what you were saying, I think you were just talking about relative keys, but I didn't want to press you on it." Ah, yes, the major section of "Iron Man." This is what happens: when the B minor tune is transposed to D# minor and played against the original bass note of B, you get pure B major. We are satisfied with this moment.

David Reilly offers up "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and the Beethoven string 4tets side by side.

Jeffrey Beebe offers Jarrett and Haden together, which will always get a gold star from TBP.

Pedro M...holy cow! The theme to Moonlighting! Hell yeah.

Ben Kramer is moved by pianist Mitsuko Uchida’s Schubert performances.

Dear Matt LeGroulx: U.S. Highball by Harry Partch certainly counts, in fact it's totally awesome. Also, 3,2,1 Contact? Hello, sweetness!

Stephen Funk gets major points for mentioning Leopold Godowsky's Studies on Chopin Etudes--in the Marc-Andre Hamelin recording, of course (Funk also mentions Hamelin).

Pclef doens't respond, but asks for more.
